There are many martial arts classes to choose from. Sometimes it can be difficult to pick which one would be the best fit for you (or your child). I think that it has to do a lot with your personality type.
Growing up in San Antonio, I had always wanted to train martial arts. I went to several trial martial arts classes at the time, and never felt like I had found the best fit for me. In 1994, I moved to Brazil for work and saw Capoeira for the first time. I couldn't believe what I was seeing...the movements...the music...it was beautiful and amazing. My first thought was, "this is what I was looking for all along."
Over the years, I have noticed that Capoeira attracts lots of different types of people....all different races, religions, backgrounds, etc. Predominantly, those who come to Capoeira are:
1. Highly energetic kids: The kind of kids who want to do martial arts...gymnastics...dance...these are the kids who want to do everything. Capoeira attracts these kids because it gives them what they want. Classes are also high energy, so they do not get bored.
2. Adults and Teens: Capoeira tends to attract people who are looking for something unique...something different. Whether they come to Capoeira for fitness, self defense, the community, the culture or any other reason...Capoeira seems to be an art form for unique people who like to do unique things.
Really, the only way to find out if Capoeira is the best fit for you, is to come in and try out a Free Trial Class. You won't know until you try it...I went to my Trial Class back in 1999, and it forever changed my life. Will Capoeira do the same for you? Come find out!
Professor Advogado - Nathan Sparrow
I love this place I have been playing Capoeira for the last 9 years and loved every second of it. The instructor, Advogado is very well versed in Capoeira history. He is a great instructor and teach anyone who is willing to try. I highly recommend everyone try capoeira at least once. If it's not for you at least you can say you tried. The students are friendly and willing to help anyone trying to learn.

I started training with Brazilian Capoeira in January 2011 as something to supplement my running. I've never been one for working out in gyms and weight lifting. For me, Capoeira has great core workout. Think Tae Bo, Power Yoga and music rolled into one workout. READ MORE

I was looking for something active for my youngest daughter (age 11) to do, and we had tried a Taekwondo school and Shaolin-do school. My daughter was unimpressed with Shaolin-do and I was thoroughly disgusted by the teachers at the Taekwondo money-pit. READ MORE
