Welcome to our new website! We have been teaching Brazilian Capoeira Martial Arts in San Antonio, Texas since 2001. Over those years, our website has changed several times, and we believe this is the most informative website we have ever had.
What is Capoeira?
Capoeira is a 500-year-old art form that was developed by African slaves taken to Brazil to work on the farms. In order to disguise their martial arts training, the slaves created Capoeira to look like it was just a dance. Today, Capoeira blends self defense, gymnastics, dance, music and culture into one fun, exciting class that will get you moving.
Why Train Capoeira Instead of Karate, Taekwondo, Jiujitsu or a More Traditional Martial Art?
There are two answers to this question...one for kids and one for adults:
Asnwer One: Children who train Capoeira often are high energy kids. They get bored with Karate and other martial arts classes, because they are just martial arts. These children often end up training Capoeira, because it gives them what they want. They want to be in Martial Arts. They want to do gymnastics. They also want to do dance. And learn an instrument. As a parent, running your kids all over town to put them in each of these activities is exhausting. Capoeira gives kids an opportunity to do all of these activities...in one fun, exciting class.
Answer Two: Adults who train Capoeira find that it helps them to stay very active as they age. Nothing beats Capoeira for agility training. I am 40 years old. I can walk 75 feet on my hands. Without Capoeira, I could have never done that. I could not even do a handstand when I went to my first Capoeira class at age 25.
Why train Capoeira instead of another art form? I think the answer to that question is that Capoeira just offers more to its practitioners. It is a martial art...but it is also much more than that.
I hope you enjoy our new website and that it encourages you to try Capoeira out. Come see for yourself why training Capoeira will greatly inprove your life.
See you in class!
Nathan Sparrow - Professor Advogado
The Brazilian Capoeira Academy | San Antonio Martial Arts Classes for Ages 3 and Up
I love this place I have been playing Capoeira for the last 9 years and loved every second of it. The instructor, Advogado is very well versed in Capoeira history. He is a great instructor and teach anyone who is willing to try. I highly recommend everyone try capoeira at least once. If it's not for you at least you can say you tried. The students are friendly and willing to help anyone trying to learn.

I started training with Brazilian Capoeira in January 2011 as something to supplement my running. I've never been one for working out in gyms and weight lifting. For me, Capoeira has great core workout. Think Tae Bo, Power Yoga and music rolled into one workout. READ MORE

I was looking for something active for my youngest daughter (age 11) to do, and we had tried a Taekwondo school and Shaolin-do school. My daughter was unimpressed with Shaolin-do and I was thoroughly disgusted by the teachers at the Taekwondo money-pit. READ MORE
